Speak Up when you have something to say and say it with confidence - Kira CurtisThis blog is part of our on-going Women in Technology series.

Kira Curtis is a Supervisor in Global Operations, IT Support and has been at Consilio for a year. She has been working in the IT industry for about 10 years.

How did you get into this industry?

I have always been interested in computers, helping people and fixing problems. I began my career in IT working as a Helpdesk technician at a call center and have enjoyed working in support-related roles ever since.

What were some pivotal moments in your career that helped to get you to where you are today?

Having an open mind, drive, and willingness to learn and making good social networking connections within the company.

Have you ever noticed a time in your career where your gender proved to differentiate you?

Many years ago, I had a situation where a customer refused my assistance and instead asked to be transferred to a male colleague. In that particular instance, I was the more senior/experienced technician. Since working at Consilio however, everyone has been very accepting, wonderful, and welcoming.

What is your advice for someone working in a predominately male workplace?

Stay true to yourself and who you are as a person. Speak up when you have something to say and say it with confidence.

What do you think companies could do to motivate more women to pursue careers in technology?

Not only promote but follow through with showing that regardless of being in a mostly or all-male environment, they will be seen, heard, and given a chance to show what they can do.
