Anitha Alluri is a Lead Database Developer here at Consilio. She has 10 years of experience in the industry and has been with Consilio for over a year and a half as a result of the DiscoverReady acquisition. Anitha earned her master’s in Information Systems from Lawrence Technological University. The most exciting parts of working at Consilio to Anitha, are the company culture, flexibility, and people on her team, which create the perfect work environment.
How did you get into technology?
Technology has always intrigued me and it was amazing that I saw its ability to change the way the world functions. But, when it comes to the industry, I would say it’s the work itself that brought me here. The work is always challenging because you always have to come up with new creative solutions to a problem. Sometimes it’s not only coming up with these ideas but implementing them and getting them to work.
What do you attribute to getting you to where you are today?
My dedication, commitment, and hard work definitely got me here. Taking up challenges and saying yes to difficult things, were definitely instrumental. I also learned to accept my mistakes, but to then learn from them. This allowed me to avoid repeating them in the future.
Can you please discuss your mentors who have been influential during your career?
Starting out, Jeff Moden, from my time at DiscoverReady has been influential – we were actually hired on the same day. He was an SQL guru, and he taught me the very best way to code SQL. I owe it to him for everything I am today.
Second, Theresa Ervin, who is my manager now, has also been influential. She’s very understanding and fun to work with. I admire that she is always there for me and has incredible managerial skills, which are something I would love to learn from her.
What is your advice for women entering the tech industry?
Go out there and do your best, people will recognize you for your hard work. Be calm, confident, and a learner.
What are your techniques for…
Managing Priorities
I am actually pretty good about keeping my things organized, so managing priorities is something that happens often in my job. Working on one thing, then having to switch gears to finish something else immediately can make this management difficult. However, I think mindfulness and letting management know what to expect when changing plans is key.
Continuous Learning and Development
As a software developer, you’re constantly learning new technology and staying updated on the latest trends. Consilio definitely has good resources for this. In addition, I also read professional blogs and forums. I definitely keep myself updated on the Microsoft technologies since I am on the SQL side of things.
When you are not working, how do you spend your free time?
I mostly spend time with my husband, kids, and pet dog, Honey. We go on long walks, watch movies together, and love to travel. We try to travel once or twice a year. On my own, I love going to the gym and doing yoga.
